My skin needs a detox? Really? Really!

Picture
Detoxing has become so mainstream that we search to purge impurities in every aspect of our lives. With so many detox programs out there―juice, digital, relationship―we often overlook our skin.
The largest organ in our body is our skin which serves an important role in our overall being by protecting us from harmful foreign substances, in addition to excreting waste products. There are various ways that we can help our skin to work efficiently, including eating the right foods, regular exercise, getting enough sleep, proper hydration, and wearing sunscreen, but having regular facial treatments from a licensed esthetician is a very vital step in skin health.

Our skin's appearance is a direct reflection of our body's functionality, both internally and externally. Of course our ideal would be living a stress-free life with regular sleep and exercise and a diet that is only whole, pure, and organic, but life is hectic! As much as we try to maintain a healthy balance, sometimes circumstances aren't ideal and the food that we eat, the air that we breath, and other outside factors can overload our system with impurities that negatively impact the appearance and functionality of our skin.

Are you still trying to figure out how all of this works? We keep mentioning skin, but it all actually starts with the lymphatic system. This is the part of the circulatory system and is responsible for eliminating your body of toxins and wastes. If your system is overloaded and polluted, you body is unable to properly filter impurities, and your skin rebels. Dull, sallow, tired-looking complexion, puffiness of the face or eyes, and dark under eye circles are all signs of weakness and often leads to fine lines, wrinkles, acne, enlarged pores, and the dreaded oil slick. When lymphatic circulation slows, so does cell turnover, which accelerates aging. Yuck.

Regular skin maintenance also includes massage that stimulates the circulatory system, including the lymphatic system, and aids in removing toxins and waste. Although the massage portion of a facial feels relaxing, a lot of work is happening under our skin to promote health. The gentle, healing power of a licensed esthetician's touch can remove stagnant fluids and toxins collected beneath the skin. A targeted facial massage (including focusing on those bags under eyes) is included in my Custom Organic Facial and Aromatherapy Facial and all of my Body Treatments include massage movements that benefit the entire body.

Now is the time to ask yourself - does your skin have that glow that emits healthiness, or is it dull, flaky, oily, or dry? If your answer is the latter, it's time to schedule a facial and find out how glowing, healthy skin looks on you!
