The Balancing Act of Your Skin

Picture
I'll never forget the day that I realized that I'd been misdiagnosing my own skin for over a decade. It was before I became an esthetician and I had been battling breakouts for much longer than I thought was appropriate. In my early 30s, I finally sought professional help.
After a facial and skin analysis, the esthetician recommended a protocol for dry skin. Wait - didn't she hear me? I told her that I keep breaking out which means oily skin, right? WRONG.

For years I had been torturing my skin with numerous products to eliminate any oils including using a harsh exfoliate almost daily, increasing the redness and dryness and creating the perfect environment for continued breakouts and irritation. I'm surprised that my skin had any healthy oils left at all, and I credit that to my young(er) age. That was when I realized the importance of skin balance.

A healthy balance of oil to water is what really matters. This is the balance that really leads to beautiful skin. Unfortunately, like former me, most people don't understand the oil to water balance and unknowingly cause a major imbalance. You may think that your skin is traditionally oily, but actually have dry skin with self-induced oil overproduction (like me). The opposite is also common, when you perceive yourself with dry skin, you usually slather on oily products, and your skin continues to suffer from dehydration - the lack of water not oil.

When your skin has a healthy balance of oil and water, your skin is healthy. When your skin is healthy, your skin tissue can excel at doing its job. When you know if its oil, water, or both that you lack, it's much easier to correct an imbalance. Luckily, my Custom Organic Facial and Aromatherapy Facial include an skin analysis to help you understand your skin's overall health. During these facials, I will correct any imbalance, so that you leave with healthy, glowing skin.

After we discuss your skin diagnosis, I am happy to recommend a at home regime, as well as a professional recommendation to maintain this healthy balance. Recommending products that contain vegetable-based, unrefined, organic oils and plant-derived water, will ensure that your skin is not only properly balanced, but using the highest quality of natural ingredients to maintain optimum health. Chemical-based systems tend to strip the skin of these healthy oils and water that leads to congestion.

You have to look out for your skin, man. I mean, sure, we are guys here, but that doesn't mean that we can just leave our skin alone. People think that it is not good to see a man take care of his skin like this, but it is important to me that I do. I do want to make things better for myself, and I really plan on doing it right. I will try to make my skin the best in our house.
